Palace Open Season as 6th Favorites

The betting odds for the upcoming Championship season sees Crystal Palace as the 6th favorite choice, behind Brum, West Brom, Sunderland, Leeds and So'ton.

That sounds about right to me, although a top 6 finish would put Palace into the playoffs.

Palace Continue Unbeaten Preseason

Crystal Palace continue its preseason unbeaten streak by drawing 2-2 at Swindon and beating Boavista 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

Scrowcroft to Palace; Quaye As Well?

Coventry City's James Scrowcroft is set to join Crystal Palace after he passes a physical. Coach Peter Taylor hopes Scrowcroft can fill in for the departed Wayne Andrews.

This article says that Hearts of Oak (Ghana) defender Dan Quaye has caught the eye of the Palace brass. Of course, that article also says that Palace were in the Prem last season, so grain of salt and all that.

More on Crystal Palace USA

McAnuff and Boyce Out?

Seems like both Jobi McAnuff and Emerson Boyce will be exiting Selhurst Park.

Sheringham Signs 2-Year Palace Deal

Eighteen-year-old Charlie Sheringham has impressed new Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor enough that he's been inked to a two-year deal to play at Selhurst Park.

I'm pretty excited to see what the youngster can do this season.

Crystal Palace in the USA

Crustal Palace have completed two preseason matches in the United States in preparation for the 2006-2007 Coca-Cola Championship.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Crystal Palace USA: The Eagles defeated their own new stateside academy team. Tommy Black's goal and Lewis Grabban's brace paced the South Londoners. Worryingly, young defender Rhoys Wiggins injured his knee.

Crystal Palace 1-1 L.A. Galaxy This match was postponed at halftime due to weather, but tyhose in attendance said that Charlie Sheringham impressed.

Crystal Palace 3-0 Stevenage Borough

Palace have won their first friendly 3-0 over Stevenage Borough at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles started with the following lineup:

Speroni
Borrowdale, Ward, Strakey, Fray
Soares, Black, Riech, Hall
Freedman, Macken

Man...there are some new names in that lineup, no? At any rate, the goals were scored by Freedman and substitutes Sheringham and Grabban.

And yes, Charlie Sheringham is is you-know-who's son.

Is Pop Out? How 'Bout Boyce?

Looks like Peter Taylor doesn't want to give Australian international Tony Popovic a new deal to stay at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile Wigan and Fulham and maybe even Iain Dowie's new club Charlton are interested in Eagle defender Emmerson Boyce, right.

Update: Pop definitely out.

CPFC Miscellany

The 2006-2007 edition of Crystal Palace returned to (practice) action this week, looking to improve on last season's playoff exit. Midfielder Ben Watson was bullish: "We can boss this league." That's the spirit!

New Palace coach Peter Taylor has his management team in place for the upcoming season...including the addition of Tony Burns as the goalkeepers coach, a position he last held at Millwall.

Finally, Sheffield United have made their acquisition of former Palace defender Mikele Leigertwood final and formal.

Taylor Honours Beckham

In the wake of England's penalty-kick loss to Portugal in the World Cup quarterfinals, David Beckham relinquished his captaincy of the Three Lions.

It was, of course, new Crystal Palace boss Peter Taylor who first handed the armband to David Beckham, back at the end of 2000. Today Taylor pays tribute to the man they call Becks.

At any rate, I don't think England's problems during this World Cup were owing to Beckham's role as captain. Win or lose, it was the right time for Becks to step down.
